All About Crown Bridges

Crowns and Bridges in Allen, Texas

Crowns and bridges are two types of restoration treatments that are provided when teeth are lost or severely damaged. These treatments are very helpful for recovering both the look of one’s smile and the overall functionality of their teeth. We take great pride in our crowns and bridges at Allen Dental Center, as we know the huge difference that they can make for our patients who need them. After treatment, the patient will be able to once again use their teeth normally, and their smile will be restored. This can mean the difference between having to hide one’s smile and being able to proudly show it off to others.

The reason crowns and bridges are so effective is because they are custom-made restorations that are modeled after the patient’s existing teeth. The sheer detail and care that we put into our crowns and bridges allow these restorations to blend in seamlessly with the rest of the patient’s teeth. And since we only use the finest porcelain in our crowns and bridges, we can promise outstanding performance.

Any patient who receives a crown or bridge from Allen Dental Center will make at least two visits. Since these are customized restorations, the patient will need to make an initial visit where we take impressions of their teeth. These impressions will be forwarded to a dental laboratory so that the crown or bridge can be built. Once the custom restoration is ready, the patient will need to return for a follow-up visit to have it applied.

Crowns

A dental crown can either replace a lost tooth or restore and protect a tooth with severe damage. Crowns are also used with dental bridges to provide support and strength. When a crown is restoring an existing tooth, it will “cap” the structure and prevents fractures and breakages. In that case, the original base of the tooth serves as the foundation. If the tooth has been lost entirely, then a dental implant will be needed to support the crown. The dental implant will be surgically placed in the jawbone, and it will serve as the roots of the new tooth. Once the procedure is complete, the crown will function and appear just like a natural tooth.

Bridges

Bridges are often used when a patient needs to replace multiple teeth in a row. A bridge is comprised of bridging teeth in the center and a supporting crown on each end. The replacement teeth in the center of the restoration will “bridge” the gap that was created when the original teeth were lost. The crowns on the ends are referred to as “abutments,” and they provide support for the structure. Dental implants can also be used to provide support for a bridge. Each component is custom-designed so that the bridge appears natural.
